A five-day shuttle service trial will commence in Mussoorie from December 15 to 20 to streamline tourist mobility and provide relief from congestion through an efficient and modernised system. The shuttle service will operate on key routes, including Kincraig Parking to Library Chowk, Kincraig Parking to Picture Palace, Hathipaon to Library Chowk and Hathipaon Band to Picture Palace on Mall Road, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said. He has also directed the officials concerned to upgrade satellite parking facilities at Hathipaon and Kingcraig by December 15. These enhancements include toilets, canteens, lighting, signage and ticketing barriers.
Besides the shuttle buses, golf carts will be deployed on Mall Road to ensure seamless last-mile connectivity for tourists. The trial phase will leverage advanced technology to provide convenience to both tourists and operators, aiming to deliver a hassle-free experience, Bansal said. He also held a high-level meeting on Tuesday with senior officials of the district including Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. Bansal urged senior officials from various departments to expedite preparations. He directed them to complete all tasks such as road improvements, installing crash barriers, creating adequate parking spaces and setting up route maps and signage by the mid-December deadline.
He also informed that the satellite parking facilities at Hathipaon and Kingcraig are on track to be operational soon. His instructions also include the creation of additional parking spaces at Kincraig and the development of proper parking arrangements at Hathipaon Band. This marks the first implementation of a satellite parking system in Uttarakhand, a milestone aimed at addressing Mussoorie’s chronic traffic woes, as per DM. He said that the shuttle service trial represents a well-planned approach to ensure comprehensive facilities for tourists while easing the traffic burden. The administration is optimistic that Mussoorie, often plagued by persistent traffic jams, will witness a transformative change with the shuttle service trial.
