Five injured following violence fuelled by political rivalry in Haridwar village

A clash between two groups resulted in stone pelting and violence at the Ghosipura village in Manglaur area of Haridwar on Sunday night. It is alleged that shots were also fired during the altercation which is said to have been the result of an old political rivalry. Five persons were injured in the violence. The police and Provincial Armed Constabulary personnel reached the village to bring the situation under control. According to officials, the situation was under control in the village on Monday. The political rivalry here has been escalating periodically since the Panchayat elections. The two sides clashed on Sunday evening with more than 50 persons reportedly pelting stones on each other. The main accused fled on seeing the police. The police have registered a case against the Gram Pradhan Javed and Pradhan candidate Hakam in addition to 50 unidentified persons.
Initially men on the two sides confronted each other with sticks and rods and soon there was aerial firing. Later, the groups began firing at the homes of their rivals which caused panic in the village. Four persons were hurt in the resulting stampede while one was reportedly shot. The superintendent of police (Rural) Swapn Kishore Singh said that there was firing during the altercation and one person was shot. However, the situation in the village is now under control.
