Five persons to receive citizenship documents from Shah in Haridwar

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Haridwar

A highlight of Union Home minister Amit Shah’s visit to Haridwar on March 7 is that five persons will receive Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), giving them the legal status of Indian citizens. Shah will attend a programme being held to commemorate four years of Pushkar Singh Dhami as chief minister and also review the preparations for the Ardh Kumbh to be held here next year.

Census director Ashish Srivastava said that the names of the five persons selected for Indian citizenship had been sent to the State government. The Home minister himself will provide the certificate of citizenship to these persons, he said.

Meanwhile, the State and local administration have stepped up preparations and other related actions for Shah’s visit along with security agencies upping their level of vigilance. Considering that Shah is viewed as second only to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Central government, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami too has held review meetings and visited the programme venue in Haridwar to check arrangements.
