Five pink booths will be installed at major locations in Dehradun to ensure prompt response to women’s complaints and enhance security for women in the respective area. These booths will be headed by female police officers, with the additional support of Gaura Cheetah teams. The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal and senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh conducted an inspection of the city on Monday to identify locations for the establishment of pink booths. Both personally took to the streets on two-wheelers to observe public issues and safety conditions firsthand. During the inspection, the officials visited several key locations including Rajpur Road, Ghantaghar, MKP Chowk, Araghar, Rispana Bridge, Kargi Chowk, ISBT, Lalpul, Saharanpur Chowk and Prince Chowk. They evaluated the feasibility of setting up pink booths and pink toilets at high-footfall areas such as Gandhi Park, MKP Chowk and Lalpul and requested proposals from the respective departments. The inspection also included assessments of road conditions, drainage, parking facilities and traffic management. Bansal said that Dehradun will soon witness the installation of pink booths and pink toilets as part of this effort to improve security and facilities for women across the city. He instructed officials concerned to submit proposals for these projects to expedite their implementation. He also directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and relevant departments to draft plans for widening roads and improving drainage around ISBT, Rispana and Prince Chowk as these areas are particularly prone to waterlogging during monsoon seasons. The DM also emphasised the need for road widening at ISBT and ordered the acquisition of adjacent land to facilitate the project. He instructed officials from the NHAI and Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure that these upgrades are completed before the onset of the next monsoon.
