The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the excise policy of the State is pushing the youth towards the scourge of addiction and is encouraging the liquor mafia.
In a statement, Mahara said that the manner in which the BJP government has made mining and excise as the basis of its earnings clearly shows its affinity towards these two things. He said that the BJP government of the state is pushing the State towards destruction.
He said that while the government headed by former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat opened liquor shops in every nook and corner of the state and started sale of liquor from vans and even converted the state highways to district roads to favour liquor shops, the Pushkar Singh Dhami government has gone a step further and has prepared the excise policy which is favouring the liquor mafia. The PCC president alleged that in the last six years the BJP government has not started even a single project and has only focused on mining and liquor. He said that the BJP had promised the state electorates before the assembly elections of 2017 that it will enforce prohibition in the state on winning the elections but it forgot its promise and is actually encouraging liquor consumption. He said that spurious liquor has taken many lives in the state due to the loopholes in the excise policy. The PCC president also alleged that the liquor mafia is working hand in glove with the BJP government and the people of the state are paying a price for this.
