Flood affected regions of Haridwar declared disaster affected areas

The Uttarakhand government has declared the flood affected areas of Haridwar district as disaster affected areas. The collection of electricity and water bills and other dues of the government would remain suspended for three months in this area. The administration would also work on the flood management plan to prevent repetition of this type of disaster in the future. These announcements were made by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami after reviewing the flood situation of flood in the Damkothi of Haridwar on Friday.

In the meeting the CM sought information about drinking water, health, communication and electricity services in the district and directed the officers to ensure that all the services are provided in the flood affected areas.

He directed that the assessment of damage caused to the crops by the flood waters should be made and said that on the spot solution of the problems of the farmers should be made. The CM directed that the arrangement of fodder for the cattle in the water logged areas should be made and added that the officers should act as per the norms of disaster in the areas where encroachments are creating hindrance in the relief works.

The district magistrate (DM) of Haridwar Dhiraj Singh Garbiyal informed that 34 teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), water police, revenue, fire brigade, police and NGOs are working in the flood affected areas of Laksar and Roorkee. The spray of insecticide on a large scale is being done in these areas to prevent the spread of epidemic. He said that procurement of medicines has been done and distribution relief kits and food is being done in the affected areas.

The DM said that a relief of Rs 36.27 lakh to the 860 affected people in the Haridwar, Roorkee, Laksar and Bhagwanpur areas. He further informed that 15,796 people are affected by the water logging and many of them have shifted to houses of relatives or rented accommodations and 81 families have been shifted to relief centres.

In the meeting Roorkee MLA Pradeep Batra, Bhagwanpur MLA Mamta Rakesh, Laksar MLA Mohammad Sahjad, Ranipur MLA Adesh Chauhan, former MLA Sanjay Gupta and other public representatives shared the problems faced by the people in their areas.

Haridwar MLA Madan Kaushik, former cabinet minister Swami Yatishwaranand, senior officers of administration and police attended the meeting.
