Flower vendors see 50 per cent surge in rose sales as Valentine’s week begins

With the onset of Valentine’s Week on Friday, flower vendors in Dehradun have reported an average increase of 50 per cent in the sale of flowers, particularly roses. Notably, Valentine’s Week begins on February 7 comprising various days dedicated to love and affection, including Rose Day, Proposal Day, Chocolate Day, Teddy Day, Promise Day, Hug Day, Kiss Day and Valentine’s Day. In light of this heightened demand for flowers, especially roses, the vendors here said that prices have also risen by an average of 10 to 15 per cent.

A flower vendor in the Dharampur area of Dehradun, Sushil Pathak stated that with the onset of Valentine’s week, there has been a notable surge in the flower business. The demand for flowers, bouquets and related items has risen by an average of 50 per cent compared to regular days. He further noted that this heightened demand has resulted in increased prices for flowers, particularly roses. For example, the cost of roses, which typically stands at Rs 40, has now risen to Rs 50 during Valentine’s week. Additionally, the prices of other coloured roses have escalated from Rs 50 to Rs 60.

“Valentine’s week is considered as one of the most profitable periods for flower vendors like myself. Throughout this week, the sales of roses and other flowers witness a daily increase. Consequently, on Friday, marking the beginning of Valentine’s week and Rose Day, I managed to sell nearly 50 per cent of the roses from my shop. I believe that sales of flowers will continue to rise in the days to come,” said another flower vendor Manish Gurung.

Numerous flower vendors have shared similar enthusiasm regarding the heightened sales of flowers during Valentine’s week. In relation to this a customer, Shivam Upadhyay said that he purchased a bouquet of roses for his wife to convey his love and affection. He acknowledged that it is indeed true that flower vendors tend to charge higher prices during this period due to the increased demand.
