Medical director and senior paediatric gastroenterologist at Apollo Hospitals, Dr Anupam Sibal said that Indraprastha Apollo is committed to pushing the boundaries of medical care, especially in critical areas like foetal medicine. The advancements being discussed in the conference which began in Dehradun on Friday represent a significant leap forward in the ability to manage high-risk pregnancies and detect congenital heart defects early. “By focusing on these areas, we’re not just improving individual patient outcomes but also working towards a broader goal of reducing infant mortality across India. Through conferences like this, we aim to share our knowledge and elevate the standard of prenatal care nationwide, ultimately giving more babies a healthier start in life,” he said.
An extensive international level conference comprising intensive lectures, live demonstrations of foteal interventions and surgeries, hands on training of approximately 250 obstetricians and radiologists, round table discussions spread over three days began here on Friday. Domain experts from India, Spain, Belgium, UK and Israel are participating in this first of a kind knowledge transfer in Uttarakhand, jointly organised by Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Delhi and Fetal Medicine Foundation India (FMFI).
FMFI founder president Dr Anita Kaul said, “Multiple pregnancies are increasing in numbers, and unless managed under established protocols and guidelines, a significant number can end up in adverse outcomes. We are seeing many more twin pregnancies than we did a decade ago, often due to IVF, ART, and advanced maternal age. Newer interventions are reducing in-utero deaths and premature births.”
