Foggy conditions are expected to continue in the plains of the State for a few more days. The State meteorological centre issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of dense fog likely to occur in some parts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts on Monday. On Sunday, the minimum temperature in Dehradun dropped by one degree which intensified the effects of the cold in the provisional State capital.
The meteorological centre has forecast that shallow to moderate fog is likely to occur in some parts of plains of Dehradun, Pauri and Nainital districts on Monday. Apart from this, dry weather is likely to prevail in the districts of the State today. Further, ground frost is likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous regions of the State.
The provisional State capital is forecast to witness a mainly clear sky which may provide some relief from the cold. Mist/shallow fog are likely to occur during the early morning/morning hours with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be about 22 degrees Celsius and five degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various locations across the State on Sunday were 22.2 degrees Celsius and 5.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 17.1 degrees Celsius and 5.2 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 17.5 degrees Celsius and 4.2 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 16.4 degrees Celsius and 5.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. The minimum temperature dropped by one degree below normal in Dehradun while the maximum temperature was three degrees above normal. The maximum temperature dropped two degrees below normal in Pantnagar. Similarly, the maximum temperature was five degrees above normal and the minimum temperature was three degrees above normal in Mukteshwar while the maximum and minimum temperatures were both one degree above normal in New Tehri.
It is pertinent to mention here that with mostly dry conditions prevailing in the State throughout December last year and the first fornight of January, agricultural activities have been affected by the lack of rain and snowfall. According to the meteorological centre, light rain is expected in some mountainous districts on January 17.
