Folk tales in local languages to be part of curriculum in primary schools

The State Education department has scripted some of the popular folk tales of Uttarakhand in Garhwali, Kumaoni, Jaunsari, Gurumukhi and Bengali languages and has compiled them in the form of a book. This book having tales of local languages would be implemented in the curriculum of primary classes in the government schools of the State from the next academic session. There are about 5,000 government primary schools in Uttarakhand.
The director general of school education Banshidhar Tiwari told The Pioneer that a team of teachers was assigned the task in every language and they have completed the work. He said that the objective of the exercise is to revive the folk tales which are fading away in the modern world. Tiwari added that the department is also working on a plan of recording prominent personalities while narrating some interesting folk tales in different local languages.
