Food affects the mental and physical growth of children. The School Education director general Banshidhar Tiwari said this at a workshop organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in association with the Education department and the Food Safety and Drug Administration on the cleanliness standards for meals prepared under the PM Poshan Scheme in government schools. The workshop was attended by more than 300 officials, principals, PM Poshan coordinators and others.
Tiwari said that it should be ensured that nutritious food as per the standards is provided to students. He urged everyone to pay special attention to cleanliness at home, school, and the surrounding environment.

The executive Director of FSSAI, U S Dhyani who joined the workshop in online mode, highlighted that various agencies working on children’s health need to come together on a single platform to effectively benefit the programme. Joint director Kuldeep Gairola informed that midday meals are provided in 16,428 schools across the State. He said that centralised kitchens are located in Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar, while meals are prepared in schools in other areas.
