Stating that the Uttarkashi police have made special arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage to the two Dhams that the district houses-Gangotri and Yamunotri- commencing on Friday, the superintendent of police Arpan Yaduvanshi said that the Yatra region has been divided into two super zones, seven zones and 20 sectors. “To ensure fool-proof security for the pilgrims, we are deploying personnel of home guard, PRD, PAC, SDRF and fire units aside from the regular police force. Besides, multilingual sign boards and police assistance centres have been set up along the Yatra route to help the pilgrims get necessary assistance and information. Travel guidelines and traffic rules will be disseminated through Visual Molecular Dynamics (VMD) installed at major travel stops,” he said.
He further said that a special team has been formed to monitor misleading news on social media and it would operate at the headquarters level. “Plus, we have taken adequate measures to avoid traffic jams on the routes. Alternative routes will be used in case of heavy jams. We have put into place a crowd management system and rotation system for horses and mules,” the SP said.
Yaduvanshi said that two DSPs, eight inspectors, 24 sub-inspectors, 154 home guards, 280 police personnel and 250 PRDs besides one platoon PAC, six sub- teams of SDRF and six fire units would be deployed.
Stating that they are taking no chances as far as the safety of the pilgrims is concerned, he said that police personnel would remain deployed round the clock at five landslide- prone zones on Yatra route.
