Lansdowne MLA Dileep Rawat raised the issue of problems caused to the people of the State due to the Forest Conservation
Act- 1980 while participating in a discussion under rule 54 in Vidhan Sabha on Saturday. He said that considering the problems being faced by the people residing in the vicinity of forests, necessary amendments should be incorporated in the FCA. Rawat said that he had put up a demand for holding a one -day special session of the Vidhan Sabha on the subject as it involves a large proportion of the State’s population.
He averred that the generations of the people of Uttarakhand have preserved the forests due to which 71 per cent of the area of the State is covered by forests. He said that the FCA has created so many hurdles in the movement of people and development works that the local people are now considering forests as a liability.
The MLA said that such a situation is very dangerous for the forests and society. Terming the FCA a black law, Rawat said that the State government should take up the issue with the Union government for incorporating amendments in this act.
