With the rise in mercury, the incidents of forest fire are being reported. Such a fire happened in Chaukori region of Lohaghat and the fire spread fast. The villagers informed the Lohaghat fire station. The fire station workers led by the officers rushed to the spot and after fighting with the fire for over two hours, they brought it under control. However, it is learnt that a large number of valuable tress like Oaks, Rhododendron and Bayberry were burnt down in the fire before it was put out. The forest fire has also left the wild animals vulnerable and to escape the fire, they move to the villages. The ranger Lohaghat has appealed to the people to promptly inform the forest and the fire departments on sighting a forest fire.
