The former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat met the national President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J P Nadda in New Delhi on Wednesday. The meeting lasted for about an hour. In the meeting the two leaders held elaborate discussions on the issues pertaining to the state.
Though the former CM termed it as a courtesy call, the meeting between the two leaders has triggered speculations in the political circles of the State. The meeting is being linked with the current political situation in the State and the issue of the backdoor appointments made in Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha. It is alleged that 72 ad-hoc appointments were made in the Vidhan Sabha without following the norms during the tenure of Prem Chand Agarwal as the Speaker. Most of the persons appointed are said to be the relatives of the senior leaders of the BJP and party functionaries. The former CM Rawat has remained very vocal on the issue of backdoor appointments in the Vidhan Sabha and has said that the Vidhan Sabha should remain free from corruption.
The political observers opine that the central leadership of the BJP can rehabilitate the former CM in the party organisation in order to keep him away from the day to day politics of Uttarakhand and make things easy for the CM Pushkar Singh Dhami. They point out that TSR can be made the national Vice President of the BJP and given charge of the party in the election bound states of Himachal Pradesh or Gujarat.
