Expressing happiness on the judgment of the Supreme Court (SC ) in which it has set aside the order of Uttarakhand High Court (HC) ordering Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry on charges of corruption against him, the former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said on Wednesday that he is thankful to the honourable judges of the SC and the advocates who took up his case in the highest court of the country. Rawat, who is on a tour of Pauri Garhwal said that the SC in its order has reprimanded the HC for its order and has quashed the Para eight of the writ petition. He said that the HC judge had given judgement without listening to his side and now the SC has found it unsustainable. Without naming the incumbent MLA from Khanpur, Umesh Kumar, the former CM said that a blackmailer tried to tarnish his image. “I will now take a legal opinion on what action can be taken against the person who tried to tarnish my image,’’ he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that Umesh Kumar had challenged the FIR against him in the Uttarakhand HC which on October 27, 2020 had ordered CBI inquiry on charges of corruption against the then CM Trivendra Singh Rawat. This order was challenged by the Uttarakhand government via a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in SC. On Wednesday the SC set aside the HC order of CBI inquiry against Trivendra Singh Rawat which came as a major victory for the former CM.
