Former owner caught for stealing car, intended to use it for smuggling liquor

Investigating the case of a car stolen on Friday night, the Haridwar police have ascertained that the previous owner of the car was involved in the theft. According to the police, the previous owner of the car had stolen the vehicle for the purpose of smuggling liquor.
Superintendent of police in-charge (Crime) Rekha Yadav informed the media at Kankhal police station that the car was presently in the possession of Mohit Bhatt while the previous owner was Rudraprayag native Subash Bisht. Police checking CCTV camera footage while investigating the theft of the car found that the vehicle was being used in mountainous terrain and on ascertaining the area, the police team reached Rudraprayag. The police team recovered the car and caught the accused Subhash Bisht’s son Prem Bisht.
During investigation, it was revealed that the accused is the former owner of the car. The car is still registered in his name as the current owner had not transferred the vehicle in his name. Yadav said that the accused used to smuggle liquor and he had stolen the car for the purpose of smuggling. Since the accused had a key to the car with him, the accused managed to steal the car easily.
