Former SCPCR chief writes to CM seeking action against illegal hotels & resorts

Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Usha Negi said that the State government should take action against hotels, resorts and homestays across the State which indulge in illegal activities and the names of all such enterprises must be made public to ensure that people are aware of such places to prevent any unfortunate incidents.

Negi has written a letter to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in which she stated that appropriate actions must be taken against irregularities found in businesses associated with tourism like resorts, hostels, hotels, rafting camps, restaurants and religious institutions to ensure that an incident like the murder of 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari who was a receptionist in a resort at Yamkeshwar in Pauri district can be prevented in the future. She said that many resorts, homestays and restaurants are reportedly built illegally across the State as per her information. She said that many such bodies allegedly carry out illegal activities like prostitution and drug use among other things which is known by many but still no action is taken against them. She said that the government should make the information of all such bodies public to prevent such illegal activities there. She also stated that it is a matter of concern that most of the owners of such bodies belong to other States and the officials do not possess all the required data either about them or their resorts or restaurants.

The officials concerned do not know about the number of staff working there, how they were hired, their personal details, whether they were verified by the local police and whether all guidelines are being followed by them. All such details along with other significant information can help the authorities to prevent several unfortunate events across the State, added Negi.
