Fortis-Escorts hospital starts treating patients under Ayushman scheme

In a major relief for the poor patients of the state, the Fortis Escorts hospital Dehradun started the treatment of cardiac diseases patients under Atal Ayushman Uttarakhand Yojana (AAUY) from Friday.  The beneficiaries of the AAUY can now avail the services Angiography, angioplasty, valve repair and By-pass surgery in the hospital.

The senior cardiologist and in charge of the Cathlab of the hospital, Dr Irfan Yaqoob Bhat told The Pioneer that treatment of three AAUY card holders was done on the very first day. He said that the coronary heart diseases are caused due to blockage of the blood vessels. He said that all types of cardiac diseases are treated in the hospital by using the best technology.  Dr Bhat said that in the last ten years a total of 13000 angiography, 5266 angioplasty, and 2700 cardiac diseases of children have been done in the hospital. The hospital has also treated more than 2.80 lakh patients in its OPD.

The facility director of the Fortis-Escorts hospital Avik Chauhan said that the hospital is a non Covid-19 hospital.

It is pertinent to mention here that the state government had extended the contract with the Fortis hospital in March this year. The state health department had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Fortis Hospital in March 2011. Under the contract an entire floor of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya (Coronation) hospital was handed over to the hospital. The government had also provided other assets to the hospital.
