Opposition demands investigation on the allegations of favouritism & corruption in recruitments done in Vidhan Sabha

Close on the heels of the new disclosures in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) examination paper leak case; the recruitments done in the Vidhan Sabha secretariat have also come under public scrutiny. It is learnt that in the period of the fourth Vidhan Sabha, the term of which ended this year, 129 appointments were made in the Vidhan Sabha. It is alleged that favouritism prevailed in these recruitments.

Demanding an inquiry in all the appointments made in last 22 years in the Vidhan Sabha secretariat, the convenor of the Uttarakhand unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jot Singh Bisht claimed that a scam much higher proportions has occurred in the recruitment in Vidhan Sabha than the scam of UKSSSC. He said money equivalent to three years of salary was demanded from some people for appointment in the Vidhan Sabha secretariat.  The AAP leader said that both BJP and Congress took turns to exploit the unemployed and patronise corruption in the state. He added that the scam in recruitment of different agencies has created a situation of dejection for the youngsters who work hard for years for a government job.

Former MLA of Kedarnath  and Congress leaderManoj Rawat said that all the youngsters have equal rights on the jobs. He opined that a transparent system should be adopted for recruitment everywhere and Vidhan Sabha should not be an exception. Rawat said that provision of a severer punishment should be made for the lawmakers if they are found involved in the scams.

The Uttarakhand assembly which has a strength of only 70 MLAs employs more than 550 employees which is said to be the highest among the State assemblies of the country. The State assembly has more employees than the secretariat of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh (UP) that has 403 MLAs. Interestingly the Uttarakhand assembly has only 15 -16 sittings in a year as compared to 60 or more of other States.
