Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation for redevelopment of three railway stations in Uttarakhand on Sunday. The Harrawala, Roorkee and Lalkuan railway stations will be redeveloped as part of the major infrastructural initiative of the Indian Railways to redevelop 508 railway stations across the nation for which the PM virtually laid the foundation. At the event in Dehradun, governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami were present at the Harrawala railway station.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhami thanked PM Modi and said that there has been speedy development in railways during the past nine years under his leadership.Stating that the Indian Railways is moving towards its golden era, he said that it is being prepared to meet the aspirations of a new India and expectations of a self-reliant nation. “On the one hand removal of unmanned railway crossings from broad gauge rail lines has made railways safer than before while on the other hand the speed of Indian Railways has also increased. Made in India trains like Vande Bharat which also represent self-reliance and modernity are becoming part of the rail network. The task of electrification of rail lines is also progressing swiftly. About 1,350 kilometres of rail lines had been electrified by 2014 while this work has been done on 6,565 kilometres from 2014 till the present,” said the CM.

He further said that the dream of a rail connection to the mountains of Uttarakhand is going to get fulfilled under PM Modi’s leadership. The work on the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line is being undertaken at a swift pace. While the railways are being modernised, the facilities are being developed to international levels and railway stations are being developed with a modern vision. The railway stations which are slated to be redeveloped will be developed on the basis of local culture, heritage and architecture, added Dhami.
