Four children rescued from child labour in district

Sunday, 20 OCTOBER 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In order to eliminate child labour in the Dehradun district, the Labour department, along with the district task force, recently rescued four children from the Herbertpur area. Following the orders of district magistrate Savin Bansal, the Labour department has been conducting a special campaign  in Dehradun to identify and rescue children involved in child labour, focusing specifically on Fridays and Saturdays.

This initiative is divided into three phases: increasing awareness, enforcing laws, and providing support for rehabilitation. It was noted by the department that many children, employers and parents are unaware of the issues surrounding child labour. Consequently, a three-stage awareness campaign has been implemented to educate them about the causes and consequences of child labour.

Assistant labour commissioner Deepak Kumar said that this campaign was initiated in September under the directions of the DM. The department had recently inspected hotels, dhabas and other establishments prone to employing child labour. As a result, four child labourers were rescued from the Herbertpur area. After rescuing, information pamphlets regarding the Child Labour Act were distributed in all establishments, informing owners and operators about the potential legal consequences of violations. He further added that in September, six child labourers were rescued and so far in October, four have been rescued under the special campaign.
