Following the directions of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), the district task force rescued four children from child labour in Dehradun. The Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) State coordinator Suresh Uniyal revealed that the NCPCR has directed the district task forces to implement the nationwide child labour rescue programme from November 20 to December 10. In line with the said programme and under the supervision of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), the district task force conducted a child labour rescue programme on Friday and rescued four children from the Clement Town area of the city, he said.
He further added that out of the four rescued children, one is a 10-year-old girl who was employed at a restaurant. The remaining children were found working in a hotel and a juice corner. Following the rescue operation, the task force has taken legal action against the business owners who employed these children as child labourers. The case has been registered against the business owners under the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation Act, 1986). The rescued children will soon be handed over to the Child Welfare Committee for counselling. Further, the parents of these children will also participate in the counselling sessions, he said.
Uniyal further said that the district task force, as mandated by the NCPCR, will consistently organise child labour rescue programmes in Doon. It will be recalled that recently under the programme, the Haridwar district task force had successfully rescued 20 children who were found working in small restaurants located along the stretch of the highway from Haridwar to Laksar.
