Four dead, 13 injured after jeep falls into gorge in Tehri

Four persons died and 13 others sustained injuries when the Tata Sumo jeep they were in fell into a gorge in the Tehri district on Sunday morning. The officials said that the accident occurred when the jeep was coming from Gaja to Chamba and the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The jeep fell into a gorge in Tehri’s Duwakoti village in the Gaja sub- division.
The police called the rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) at the spot. The rescue team along with local people and the police retrieved the bodies from the gorge. Two persons identified as Dharamveer Aswal (45) and Ritika (22) died on the spot. All injured were initially taken to a hospital in Gaja where Jagveer Singh Rawat (40) died during treatment. The remaining injured were later referred to the higher centre AIIMS- Rishikesh for treatment. Another injured Gautam (20) also died during treatment in AIIMS- Rishikesh in the evening.
The injured people include Vikas Pandey (28) and his wife, Puja Devi (21) and daughter Aditi (2), Prakashi Devi and her two children- Vansh (9) and Shrishti (12), Vimla Devi (28), Rishika (2), Deepa Devi (65), Kalawati Devi (60), Rajesh Panwar (40) and Virendra Singh Pundir (52). The officials said that over speeding appears to be the primary reason for the accident but the investigation is ongoing. The police have sent all bodies for post mortem and informed victims’ families about the accident.
