Four persons died on the spot when the car they were returning in from a marriage function fell 100 metres down the mountainside near Naugaon in Almora district on Saturday. The father, elder sister, sister in-law and nephew of the groom died in the mishap while three others were seriously injured.
According to sources, a marriage party had gone from Matela village in Bageshwar to Sheraghat in Pithoragarh district on Friday. The marriage party was returning on Saturday when at about 9 AM, when the car with seven persons on board fell down the road and landed near the Binsar river. The local villagers reached the site first after which the police and personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) also reached the site to conduct rescue and recovery operation. According to officials, the police are probing to ascertain the cause of the accident.
