Four dead, two injured after boulder & debris fall on homes

Four members of a family died after a heavy boulder fell on their home following a landslide in Paingadh village of Chamoli district late on Friday night. Two persons were seriously injured in the incident and were referred to a higher centre for treatment by the doctors.
The Patwari of Tharali, Chandra Singh Butola informed that a considerable quantity of debris and boulders have been falling due to a landslide above the Paingadh village in the Tharali Tehsil for some time now. Late on Friday night, a heavy boulder fell off the cliff and landed in the residential area and severely destroyed a home.
Four persons in the home were killed on the spot while two other persons were extracted from the debris by the rescue team. The injured were taken to the community health centre in Tharali from where they were referred to a higher centre for treatment. Two other homes were also damaged by the debris and boulder on Friday night.
Soon after the disaster, a team of the revenue police reached the site where rescue and relief efforts were started. Four bodies were extracted from the severely damaged home on Saturday morning. The four members of the family who died in the disaster have been identified as Devanand Sati (57), Ghananand Sati (45), Bachuli Devi (75) and Sunita Devi (37).
