Four persons died and two sustained serious injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into the Bhagirathi river near Arya Vihar Ashram in Sainj on the Gangotri national highway in Uttarkashi district on Friday. The injured are being treated in the district hospital in Uttarkashi.
According to the information provided by official sources, a car plying from Uttarkashi towards Bhatwadi met with an accident on Friday evening. The car fell directly into the Bhagirathi river 50 metres below the road. On receiving the information, the police and disaster relief teams reached the spot and vegan the rescue operation.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team extracted the car from the middle of the river. All the passengers in the vehicle are said to be from the Dwari village of Uttarkashi district. Three people died on the spot in the incident. Three injured were admitted to the district hospital for treatment, out of which one died during treatment. The exact cause which led to the accident was yet to be ascertained till the time of this report being filed.
