Four people including pregnant woman killed in Rudrapur

Four people died in a road accident in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar district early on Wednesday when a speeding car collided with the e-rickshaw they were travelling in. The deceased also included a pregnant woman. Besides this, two other women and the car’s driver sustained serious injuries, the officials said. They informed that the incident happened at about 3 AM on Nainital Road. The pregnant woman along with some family members was returning from a hospital in the wee hours. She had reportedly started experiencing labour pains, due to which she was taken to the hospital late on Tuesday. However, the doctor reportedly told them after examination that the woman is due in one or two days and sent them home. While returning home in an e-rickshaw around 3 AM, a car rammed into it, as per the officials. They informed that the police reached the location after getting information about the accident and took the injured to the district hospital. Doctors declared two women and the e-rickshaw driver as brought dead on arrival. They also referred a woman to a higher centre in Haldwani but she also succumbed to her injuries later, the officials said. The victims were identified as residents of Bhura Rani village in Rudrapur and were on their way home after the hospital visit. They include pregnant woman Jyoti, Urmila, Vibha and the e-rickshaw driver Manoj Sahni. The officials informed that the bodies have been sent for postmortem. The police will also question the injured after they get stable to gather more details about the accident. The police are yet to determine the exact cause of the accident, the officials added. Besides this, the Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police Manjunath TC also reached at the accident site and obtained detailed information about the incident. He also visited the mortuary to meet the relatives of the deceased and expressed his condolences for the loss. He also visited the hospital to check on the injured.
