Four people travelling from Udham Singh Nagar’s Rudrapur to Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya were killed in a road accident late on Thursday. The deceased include a man named Ram Das Maurya (60) and his two sons Avinash Maurya (25) and Ankur Maurya (22) and his son-in-law Lekh Raj (30) who were going to attend a wedding in Ayodhya, as per the officials.
They said that the incident occurred on the highway connecting Sitapur to Lucknow when a truck loaded with sewer pipes overturned on the victims’ car. He said that the bodies of all the deceased were badly crushed under the truck and were pulled out of the damaged car using gas cutters. All victims had died on the spot.
The officials said that the traffic was interrupted for a while after the incident but it was resumed after the police cleared the road after working for about an hour. They said that the police had sent the bodies for the postmortem and informed the family members about the incident. It is also being speculated that the victims’ car was allegedly on the wrong side of the road when the accident happened. However, the officials here said that the UP police are investigating the matter and will handle it accordingly.
