Celebration turns tragic as birthday boy drowns with two friends in Ganga, another drowns during outing at Maldevta
Four teenagers died after drowing in two separate incidents on Saturday. In the first incident, three teenagers drowned in the Ganga river at Neem beach, Tapovan under Munikireti police station area while in the second incident one teenager drowned at a waterfall in Maldevta area on the outskirts of Dehradun.
On Saturday afternoon a group of six youngsters had gone to the Neem beach to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The youngsters entered the Ganga river to bathe when three of them were carried away by the strong current of the river. Those who were swept away included the youngster whose birthday was being celebrated by the group. The personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police reached the site and were searching for the youngsters swept away in the river. According to the Munikireti police, the three teenagers who were drowned in the Ganga have been identified as Aryan Bangwal (16), Vatsal Bisht (17) and Prateek (16)- all residents of Gumaniwala, Shyampur in Rishikesh. It was Vatsal Bisht’s birthday on Saturday and the group of friends was celebrating the occasion. The search for the missing teenagers was continuing till the time of this report being filed.
In another incident, a youngster drowned at Digu waterfall in the Maldevta area on the outskirts of Dehradun which falls under the Chamba police station. According to sources, 16-year old Dehradun resident Rohit Rawat had gone with friends to the waterfall and had entered the pool beneath the waterfall. However, he was unable to gauge the depth of the water and began to drown. His friends attempted to save him but were unable to rescue him. The Chamba police reached the site on being informed along with personnel of the SDRF from Sahastradhara.The body of the youngster was recovered after much searching.
