In what may seem to be a rare case the likes of which may not have been heard, a man has sent a Rs 50 lakh defamation notice to a close friend of his for leaving him and other invited friends out of his barat (marriage procession) and with no other option but to return home. In the legal notice sent by Chandrashekhar, he has sought Rs 50 lakh from Ravi for dishonouring him and defaming him with his actions on the day of his wedding.
Haridwar residents Ravi and Chandrashekhar were close friends.Ravi made a list of friends to be invited to the marriage and handed it over to Chandrashekhar for distributing the invitation cards so that they would attend Ravi’s wedding on June 23 at Dhampur in Bijnor district of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
Reportedly at the behest of Ravi, Chandrashekhar distributed the invitation cards to various persons and requested them to reach the designated place at 5 PM.Chandrashekhar had reportedly insisted that the invitees reach on time so that all friends can take part in Ravi’s wedding procession. All the invited friends reached the location at 4:50 PM but got to know on their arrival that the wedding procession had already left.Chandrashekhar phoned Ravi who reportedly told them to go back. According to Chandrashekhar all the people he had presented the invitation card to were disappointed and hurt which caused him mental torture and tarnished his image. Chandrashekhar informed Ravi on the phone that he felt defamed but Ravi neither expressed any regret nor sought any apology. Following this, Chandrashekhar has sent a legal notice to Ravi through his advocate Arun Bhadauria seeking a public apology within three days failing which he will sue him for defamation seeking Rs 50 lakh in compensation.
