The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused the Congress of attempting to spread confusion on the subject of single use plastic due to its ignorance of facts. The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that the allegations levelled by the Congress are baseless.
Responding to allegations levelled by PCC president Karan Mahara, he said that as per the policy of the Central Pollution Control Board, the Union government has banned a total of 19 single use plastic items. The thickness of the plastic carry bags has been regulated in the State under the notification of the Uttarakhand State Environment Protection and Climate Change section. “The PCC chief is just guessing that the Excise department is violating the ban whereas the polyester hologram published in the tender is not prohibited by any government order. There is no mention in any notification or court order about 36 microns thick polyester film hologram being prohibited. The complainant has also mixed up facts to misguide government agencies and undertakings.
The polyester hologram is being used on liquor bottles in various States including Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tripura and Sikkim, among others. The Congress is levelling baseless allegations in its frustration and desperation The government’s disaster policy is also employment oriented but the Congress has objection to this too. The policies under the Congress government were made on the suggestions of the liquor mafia while the Dhami government’s policies are transparent,” Chauhan said.
