The Uttarakhand secretariat and the district jail complex, Suddhowala, have been officially recognised as Eat Right Campuses by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The certification process was carried out under the supervision of the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) of Uttarakhand. The canteens and food services operating in both the secretariat and the district jail complex underwent a food safety audit and the food handlers were provided training under the Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) programme.
The training and audit process were conducted by organisations authorised by FSSAI, including the Academy of Management Studies for training, URS Certification for audits and The Red Carpet Venture for implementation. The expenses for the entire process were covered by Herbalife India as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, ensuring no financial burden on the secretariat or jail administration. This initiative falls under FSSAI’s Eat Right India movement and aims to promote safe, healthy and sustainable food in different workplaces and institutions including jails.
The chief secretary Radha Raturi also lauded the efforts of the administrations of secretariat and district jail for achieving this commendable recognition. She said that this initiative plays a crucial role in creating a sense of responsibility and accountability towards food safety and nutrition within the prison system and secretariat. Raturi also congratulated the food supervisors of various food services in the secretariat, including Indira Amma Bhojanalay and the GMVN canteen for their role in achieving this milestone.
