Gadkari gave this information to the Tehri MP, Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah through an official letter. He further informed her that the Centre is working on many important highway projects to provide better connectivity to the remote areas of Uttarakhand.

This project will provide smooth and safe transportation facility to those living in Mori, Natwar, Sankri and Jakhol areas of Uttarkashi district. With this route being famous for trekking and tourism, the implementation of this project will boost tourism and strengthen the local economy.

The MP thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gadkari for the approval, saying that the project would fulfil a long-standing demand of the region.

Locals sounded happy with the approval, saying that Sankri and Jakhol being the gateway to many popular trekking destinations like Har Ki Dun, Rupin Pass, Kedarkantha and Bali Pass,  the improved road quality would boost local homestays, hotels, restaurants and guide services, which would in their turn strengthen the economic condition of the region.
