Gandhi Shilp Bazaar inaugurated in Doon

Uttarakhand’s Agriculture minister Subodh Uniyal inaugurated the Gandhi Shilp Bazaar fair here on Saturday. The minister said that the Shilp Bazaar organised by Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), ministry of Textiles, is a meaningful concept.

Speaking on the occasion, Uniyal said that while making any product is important, it is more important to take it to the market where the customer can access it. He said, “Due to the Covid pandemic, many artisans have not been able to ensure the presence of their products in the market. The government has provided them this opportunity to do so. The need of the time is that traditional products get a market but it is also important that we move towards self employment rather than look towards the government for governmental jobs,” said Uniyal.

The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar fair will continue till February 14 on the playground near Kisan Bhawan on Ladpur ring road. According to the event organizers, Covid guidelines are also being observed in the fair wherein artisans from 24 states have put up stalls selling their products. The local councillor Naresh Rawat, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) assistant director, Nalin Rai and others were also present on the occasion.
