Ganesh Joshi stresses on sericulture   to stop migration

In latest news from Doon, the State Agriculture minister Ganesh Joshi inaugurated the one-day Resam Kisan Mela organised under the joint aegis of Regional Sericulture Research Station, Sahaspur-Dehradun and Bhimtal-Nainital;  Central Silk Board and Union Ministry of Textiles. An exhibition was also inaugurated on the occasion. Several farmers were felicitated for their good work in the field of silk. Besides, he released a book on sericulture. 

In his address, the minister said that given the environmental friendliness of Uttarakhand, the silk industry could play an important role in strengthening rural economy, increasing employment opportunities and preventing migration.

He also mentioned that Uttarakhand produces bivoltine silk cocoons whose quality is of international level. “The plains and Terai are suitable for their production. At the same time, Oak Tussar, Muga and Eri silk are being promoted in the remote mountainous regions,” he added.
