The police arrested three men from a gang who robbed a Dehradun resident by pretending to be the officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). They committed this crime after getting heavily inspired by a Hindi movie, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar. In a Press conference here on Monday, he said that Amit Kumar filed a complaint on August 29 stating that three people entered his flat in the Sahastradhara Road area around 6:15 AM wearing masks. They reportedly introduced themselves as CBI officers. At that time, the complainant’s two friends- a man and a woman were also present in his flat.

The accused took laptops, phones and some other expensive gadgets from his flat and took the complainant and his male friend in a car while leaving the woman in the flat. “The complainant said that the accused made them sit in his own car and started instructing them to drive it across the city while demanding money from them. They started to talk over the phone to his family members regarding money.

The complainant saw an opportunity and managed to escape from the car near Mohabbewala. The accused later left the car and his friend near Daat Kali Temple and ran away,” said Kunwar. He said that the police started the investigation by analysing footage from CCTV cameras. It came to light during the investigation that four people were involved in this robbery three of whom were arrested by police from Saharanpur on Sunday. The police recovered looted cash amounting to Rs two lakh, six iPhones, two laptops, one tablet, a register with important data, a car used in the incident, fake pistols which were lighters and walkie-talkies.

The accused have been identified as Ashish Kumar (34), Sonu Singh (30) and Sumit Kumar (29). The SSP said that the arrested accused told the police that the fourth absconding accused is Abhishek Saini (37) who was reportedly learning share trading from the complainant. He told them that the victim receives hefty amounts to invest in the share market and has crores of rupees available in his digital wallets. The SSP said that the police are working to nab the absconding accused while investigating the financial background of the complainant as well as to know about his source of wealth.
