Gangotri shrine closed for the winter, Kedarnath & Yamunotri shrines to be closed to public today
The process of the closure of Char Dham Yatra for the winter commenced on Sunday with the ritual closing of the Gangotri shrine. The portals of the Kedarnath and Yamunotri shrines will be closed to the public for the winters on Monday.
The portals of the Gangotri shrine were closed to the public ritually at 12:15 PM on the occasion of Annakoot- Govardhan Puja on Sunday amidst a large gathering of devotees. This year about 23,500 people paid obeisance of goddess Ganga at the Gangotri shrine. After the closing of the shrine, the Utsav Doli of the goddess was carried to her winter abode in Mukhba village. Social distancing was observed in the procession, according to officials.
The Char Dham Devasthanam Board media in-charge Harish Gaur further informed that the portals of Kedarnath will be closed to the public on the occasion of Bhaiyadooj on Monday at 8:30 AM. The portals of Yamunotri shrine will also be closed on the same day at 12:15 PM. The Badrinath shrine will be the last of the Char Dham shrines to be closed to the public at 3:35 PM on Thursday.
