Garhwal commissioner orders formation of task force against illegal encroachments

The Garhwal commissioner Sushil Kumar has directed the Dehradun district administration to form a task force to take necessary action against all kinds of illegal encroachments across the district. He said this during a meeting held on Thursday along with the officials concerned to discuss the implementation of the orders passed by the Uttarakhand High Court in connection with writs filed by various petitioners for removal of encroachments in the district. The commissioner asked the Irrigation department officials about the current status of encroachments removed from the Rajpur Canal area who informed that a total of 31 were marked in the area out of which 17 have been removed and 14 are pending under the Public Premises (PP) Act. Kumar directed the officials to take necessary actions to dispose of the cases under the PP act to facilitate the removal of the encroachments as soon as possible. He also directed the additional district magistrate to form a task force under the district magistrate Sonika to identify such places near Dilaram bazaar on Rajpur Road where people have encroached by covering the canal. He asked the officials to take concrete actions to ensure the removal of encroachments from canals and other river drains across the district. Besides this, the Garhwal commissioner also ordered the officials to take action against the officials involved in the illegal constructions in the Maldevta area which was recently hit severely by flash floods. He also asked the officials to take action against the removal of encroachments in the Garhi cantonment area in coordination with the CEO of the cantonment board besides working effectively on the cases which have been given a stay by the court.
