The eminent Jagar singer Padma Shri Basanti Bisht, who remained an ‘A’ grade artist of All India Radio (AIR) Dehradun, has been awarded top grade by AIR for Garhwali folk music. Born at Lwani village of Chamoli district, she obtained ‘B’ grade artist mark for Garhwali folk song in the vocal examination conducted by AIR Najibabad in 1996.  She was awarded the ‘B High’ and in 2013, she received the ‘A’ grade for folk music.

Notably, top grade is the highest grade given by AIR in the field of music.  According to AIR’s tradition, she has now received the title of Vidushi.

The programme head AIR Dehradun Shivram Singh Rawat presented a top grade certificate to Bisht.
