GDMC enables woman to open both eyes

The doctors of the ophthalmology department of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) here have claimed to have treated a woman who was unable to open both eyes. Usha Devi (58 Years), resident of Saldang Village Pauri Garhwal was presented in the Eye OPD of the hospital with inability to open both eyes. The doctors detected her with Blepaharospasm of both eyes.
After thoroughly examining her, a team of doctors led by Associate Professor Dr Sushil Ojha started treatment with 42 Units of Botulinum Toxin Injection in each eye.
Dr Ojha said that the patient has shown a recovery of 30 to 40 per cent and claimed that the maximum efficacy will be in seven to nine days. He added that the effect of injection will be effective for 12 to 18 weeks. Dr Ojha claimed that the procedure has been done for the first time in a Public sector Hospital in Garhwal region.
The team included assistant professor, Dr Neeraj Saraswat and Senior Resident Dr Harshita Dabral.
The Principal of GDMC, Dr Ashutosh Sayana has congratulated the team of eye specialists and said that the GDMC is meeting the expectations of the people residing in remote mountainous parts of the state.
