The Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital has established an isolation ward with 20 beds on its premises in anticipation of a potential rise in dengue cases. Stating this, the deputy medical superintendent at GDMC hospital Dr Dhananjay Dobhal said that the hospital administration has taken this step in response to the chief medical officer’s direction to prepare for future cases of dengue which usually occur during the monsoon season. He further added that they have set up a separate isolation ward for dengue patients, comprising 20 beds on the ground floor of the Ayushman building of the GDMC. Additionally, the hospital has installed nine mosquito traps at the nine beds in the isolation ward to ensure the safety of the patients, he said.
He further informed that on the direction of the hospital administration, the municipal corporation of Dehradun has started fogging at the hospital premises. Additionally, a large waste container will be installed at the hospital to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes in open areas caused by garbage. Dobhal further added that the hospital administration is well-prepared to handle dengue cases in the future, with further preparations to be made based on the needs of such cases.
It will be recalled that earlier Dobhal had assured that according to the future requirements, they will also ensure the set up of an additional 10-bed ICU isolation ward for people whose dengue is in severe condition in the hospital. In the ICU isolation ward, apart from oxygen supply, ventilator facilities will also be provided to the affected patient.
