A case of alleged fraud and embezzlement of around Rs 95 lakh has been reported in the mess operations of the boy’s and girl’s hostels of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) in Patelnagar. The police have registered a case against mess manager Atiq Ahmed following a complaint by Nishant Yadav at Patelnagar police station.
According to the complaint filed on Saturday, Yadav, the contractor operating the hostel messes, had signed the contract on December 1, 2023. Ahmed, a native of Dholpur in Rajasthan, was appointed by Yadav as the mess manager. His responsibilities included coordinating with students, managing the mess and collecting mess fees. The complainant alleged that Ahmed asked students to deposit their mess fees into his personal bank account. He allegedly promised students that they would get meals at lower rates. At the same time, he allegedly misled Yadav about the money being collected.
The matter came to light after Yadav received only Rs 7.98 lakh from the college administration in April. A detailed check allegedly showed that around Rs 95 lakh had been deposited into Ahmed’s personal account.
The Patelnagar police said that Ahmed’s phone was switched off and he was not found at his residence. A case has been registered under BNS Sections 316(2) and 318(4).
