The Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital has set up a five-member committee to ensure hygiene in the canteen area. Sharing this information, the medical superintendent of GDMC Dr Anurag Aggarwal said that it is an annual practice to form a committee to oversee hygiene and other activities in the hospital canteen. This year, the committee consists of the deputy medical superintendent, medical superintendent, dietician and two other members of the hospital staff, he added.

He further informed that the committee conducts weekly and surprise inspections in the canteen area to verify the reliability and hygiene of the food prepared for patients. Aggarwal emphasised that inspection reports are submitted to the hospital administration for review. Due to the significance of the canteen area, regular inspections are imperative, he said.

Aggarwal commented on the menu provided to patients admitted at the hospital, noting that it varies between winter and summer seasons to incorporate seasonal vegetables. Additionally, the hospital administration has introduced a mandatory protein diet, including eggs and milk, to ensure patients receive adequate nutrition daily. Aggarwal emphasised the administration’s initiative to tailor patient menus according to individual dietary needs, to improve each patient’s health based on their specific ailments.
