The Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) has geared up to tackle the dengue cases that may arise in Dehradun city during the monsoon season. With the arrival of the monsoon season, the hospital administration has enhanced its readiness for this purpose. Stating this, the medical superintendent of GDMC hospital Dr Anurag Aggarwal informed that they have established a 20-bed isolation ward for adult patients along with a nine-bed ICU isolation ward for adults who may experience worsening conditions due to dengue. Further, an eight-bed ICU isolation ward for children has also been set up to ensure comprehensive care for patients affected by the dengue, he added.
He also informed that a mosquito trap has been installed in the isolation ward and thorough hygiene practices will be maintained in the wards. Additionally, regular fogging operations have commenced on the hospital premises. He further highlighted that training sessions for the doctors on dengue prevention have also been conducted within the hospital premises.
Aggarwal further stressed that the monsoon season has begun in the State, hence it is crucial for individuals to pay attention to dengue prevention. During the rainy season, stagnant water can accumulate on roads, drains, and various other areas. It is imperative for individuals to monitor and promptly remove standing water from their surroundings. In addition, he stressed the common symptoms of dengue such as stomach pain, nausea, fever and headache. He advised that should any individual experience these symptoms, they should consult a doctor and get tested as soon as possible.
It will be recalled that recently deputy medical superintendent at GDMC Dr Dhananjay Dobhal said that the surgery ward may be converted into isolation units for dengue patients depending on demand and potential deterioration of the situation in the future.
