GDMC shifts Radiologist from IPD to OPD building

Friday, 21 June 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Taking note of the recent resignation of a radiologist who used to conduct ultrasounds for general patients in the OPD building, the administration of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital has transferred its radiologist from the IPD building to the OPD building. Stating this on Thursday, the medical superintendent at GDMC, Dr Anurag Aggarwal said that the radiology department in the OPD building previously had two doctors in charge of conducting ultrasound services – one for pregnant women and the other for general patients. “We received Dr S P Kudiyal’s resignation on Tuesday,” he added.

“We are well aware of the concerns raised by patients over his resignation and the temporary closure of the ultrasound service. However, the hospital administration has decided to address the situation by reassigning Dr Avantika, a radiologist from the IPD building, to the radiology department in the OPD building where patient volumes are higher any given day. Previously, there were two radiologists in the IPD building, but due to the present circumstances, one doctor has been transferred to the OPD building. In order to provide a permanent solution to the radiologist shortage, we have instructed the current outsourcing agency to replace Dr Kudiyal with a new radiologist at the earliest. The hospital administration has officially approved the new radiologist to operate the new ultrasound machines to be provided by the newly contracted company,’’ he said.

“It is anticipated that the installation of the new ultrasound machines in the presence of the new radiologist will be completed in a week at the OPD building,” said Dr Agarwal.
