In light of the water supply issue at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital’s IPD building, the administration is planning to proceed with option B, which involves connecting the new gynaecology building’s borehole to the IPD building. Notably, the water supply in the IPD building has been disrupted since Tuesday due to mechanical issues with the borehole from where water is provided to specific wards in the building. The situation had remained unchanged till Friday. Consequently, procedures such as dialysis and eye operations were brought to a halt. Additionally, both patients and hospital staff also encountered various difficulties due to the lack of water supply.
The medical superintendent at GDMC hospital Dr Anurag Aggarwal also expressed concerns about the disturbance experienced by patients due to the disruption in water supply in the building caused by issues with the boring system. He confirmed that the water supply from the boring suddenly stopped on Tuesday and despite ongoing repair efforts, the issue had persisted. In response to this challenge, the hospital administration has arranged for multiple water tankers to provide some relief, although this is not sufficient for patients requiring dialysis. He further stressed the importance of running water for dialysis procedures and noted that the lack of water supply has hindered this critical treatment at the hospital. He said that the boring repair work is in its final stages and anticipated that it will be resolved soon. He further stated that if the situation persists or similar occurrences happen in the future, patients should rest assured, as the hospital administration has a contingency plan in place. This involves the option of temporarily connecting the newly constructed gynaecology building borehole, which is currently under construction, to the IPD building, he added.
