To address concerns raised by patients regarding the insufficient parking space, the administration of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) has initiated the development of two parking floors in the newly constructed gynaecology building.
It will be recalled that numerous patients have been facing major inconvenience due to limited parking space, which leaves them with no option but to park on the roadside instead of using the designated areas such as the OPD basement. Additionally, there have been reports concerning the scarcity of parking spaces due to visitors to nearby locations utilising the hospital’s parking space. In response, the hospital administration previously indicated plans to expand the parking facilities to accommodate both patients and hospital staff in the new building, which will replace the old gynaecology block.
Informing about this, the medical superintendent at the GDMC Dr Anurag Aggarwal informed that the hospital administration is aware of the patients’ concerns regarding the limited parking available. In response to this, the administration has implemented several measures to address the issue. They have engaged in discussions with the local police and the municipal corporation of Dehradun to enhance the availability of parking spaces and to manage traffic flow in and around the hospital area. Their collaboration has been supportive; however, to provide a more permanent resolution to the parking challenges, two floors have been decided to be added to the newly constructed gynaecology building, which has a capacity of an average of 530 beds and will offer various treatments. These new floors will accommodate parking for up to 100 cars and 500 two-wheelers simultaneously.
Additionally, the parking facilities will be accessible to both hospital staff and patients. It is expected that the executing agency will hand over the construction building by December 2025, resolving the parking issue, he said.
