Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has said that the GDP of Uttarakhand would increase by at least three per cent if the State government starts functioning for only three months in a year from the summer capital Gairsain. He opined that it would help in bringing reverse migration in the State. The former CM said on social media that the State needs new growth centres for development.

He opined that the State would attract more investment if the government functions for three months from Gairsain. Taking potshots at the State government for hiring global management consultancy firm Mckinsey for preparing the development plan, Rawat said that the State needs a courageous CM. “The paths have been earmarked but one needs courage to tread on them,’’ Rawat wrote on his Facebook page.  He said that the per capita income of the State would also increase if the summer capital actually starts functioning from Gairsain.

On March 4, 2020 the then chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat announced on the floor of the State assembly that in Bharadisain that Gairsain would be made the summer capital of Uttarakhand. His government followed the declaration by issuing a notification on June 8, 2020 for making Gairsain the summer capital of Uttarakhand. He also said that a mega package for planned development of Gairsain would be brought. The opposition leaders now accuse the State government for ignoring Gairsain. With the Dhami government deciding to hold the upcoming budget session in Bharadisain at Gairsain and the debate on Gairsain has gathered more momentum than before.
