General public should get maximum benefit of Govt schemes: Agarwal

Finance minister Prem Chand Agarwal said that Uttarakhand is moving on the path of development at a fast pace. He said that the Gross Domestic Production (GDP) of the State was 7.3 per cent in the year 2022-23. The minister was addressing the 88th special meeting of the State level bankers committee here on Tuesday. The minister said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has set a target to make Uttarakhand one of the developed States of the country when it completes 25 years of its creation and the State government is moving in this direction. Agarwal said that the State government presented a budget of Rs 88,000 crore this year which is 15 per cent more than last year.
The minister told the bankers that the objective of everyone should be to ensure that the general public gets maximum benefit from the government schemes. He said that the banking sector in Uttarakhand has shown good improvement and opening of more and more branches of banks in the State show that the area is moving on the path of prosperity. He said that the credit deposit (CD) ratio of Uttarakhand is better than Himachal Pradesh but the bankers should have given even better performance.
Agarwal said that the CD ratio in the State was 48 per cent in the year 2021-22. He said that there were 103 such villages in the State where bank branches were not there but now branches have been opened in 88 such villages. The finance minister directed the banks to make maximum publicity of their schemes.
The bankers informed that the banks have over achieved targets in all the loan schemes sponsored by the union and State governments.
The meeting was attended by Finance secretary Dilip Jawalkar, secretary Radhika Jha, additional secretary C Ravi Shankar, chief general manager of Reserve Bank of India R Giridharan, CGM of NABARD VK Bihst and others.
